The 3 Noirs

Okay so this week i didn’t come out with aboslutley nothing to show, in fact I speant two days up in the cintique labs drawing one of my favourite Homestuck Characters in his 3 different universal versions!

Bec Noir belongs to the original universe:

and finally Lord Jack from the universe created after the ‘scratch’

This guy is one of my favourite characters in the comic, when i first began my uni course i spent a good ol’ evening drawing a picture of these three as a little thing to entertain myself

and because they are becoming relevant in the most recent upd8 of the comic i thought i would redo this original image, using all of the skills i have developed this year. A little celebration for my boy to return to the storyline!

Maybe next term i will redo this again, only time will tell!

What happened??

Okay, remember last week, remember all that hard work I did? Remember those cool pieces of art I did, yeah? Remember all the determination and go-to attitude, yeah well apparently this week it’s been totally gone, i have found getting out of bed more of a hindrance than something as a means to a goal and I haven’t even gone to labs to do some work on the cintiques which would have been advisable.
I can only really put it down to finally crashing and burning from the stress of the last week of scheduled project work, like last week i think i was running on adrenaline from finally finishing everything and i was very excitable but i think this week was spent mostly moping about and working on a costume for a party on the Friday.

On the plus side i have been doing a hell of a lot of doodling while being preoccupied with scrolling down tumblr for hours and drinking Dr Pepper all day, so i guess that isn’t too bad, as i have got some practice in!I will post some of my good stuff later on this weekend!

I did some art

Okay so there’s no more work to do not for me anyway but to celebrate being off I started a new project and also I did some personal drawing, there’s not a lot to update on but i mean I am not that busy, any way here you go!

for my new pokemon team project I am painting all six of my pokemon leaf green pokemon team in their last evolutions and in a cool realistic tyle based on real life animals, Blastoise (Tank) is based on an Alligator snapping Turtle and Beedrill (Pnuematic) a Four Toothed Mason Wasp.

This is essentially a self portrait but i basically used myself as a reference of for a homestuck character Dave Strider

you can’t really get a lot from the comic sometimes so using myself was the next best thing

Do I feel safe on this course?

You may think this is a silly question to ask but honestly i am not feeling safe, now it’s not that i feel like i will be removed from the course, I think I have worked especially hard this year but it’s the behaviour of some of the more experienced first years that make me feel uneasy and unsafe here.
I am not one to name any names or anything but I found from some sources that a few of the 1st years with a high opinion of their art have been making fun of less experienced people’s work during the hand in. This has made me very uneasy, being a beginner I feel as if I may have been one of the people ending up as the butt of their joke but this may be just paranoia but all my issues aside I know that some people on this course aren’t as skilled as some and feel very uneasy about being in labs because of the way people have been acting. I think this needs to stop now, I want some of the new first years next year to see us as a group of friendly supportive people not a bunch of self worshipping assholes (excuse my language)
I just thought that I understand that there are people that read my blog that would find this information, let’s say interesting but y’all didn’t hear it from me, okay?

Hand-in

Well It’s all over now all has been completed and all has been handed in, my zombie truck and all associating assets were completed in time and handed in before nine in the morning! I also handed in my overall self evaluation of the year and submitted in a lovely selection of my life drawing to my tutors.

Thus ends my first year of game art, I have had a grand total of 1 and a half hours of sleep and I am feeling a little more elated than I should.  Watching a playthrough of Pokemon Fire red by the Game Grumps is probably the only thing that got me through all of this work but in the end it was totally worth it.

Hi all! I have finally sorted out my personal art page on here, this means I can show you guys my little bits of art I have done in the past such as a level finals and corresponding pieces, some silly doodles and some longer pieces of art I did for fun.

I have no experience with this site at all so I am still working out the tricks of the trade so it’s going to be uploaded in chunks from time to time.

Level 30: (not) Left for dead

Well what an excellent week I have had let me tell you, I am not joking or over estimating I have probably worked the hardest ever and I have actually really enjoyed myself! I decided upon my final design for my truck and got straight on to 3ds max. I really pushed the boat out for this, as you know I have found 3D work extremely hard to enjoy and do but this week I thought lets challenge myself. My final design features deer skulls and a deer head which I have never modelled before in my life but i decided that now was the time to try and make something i want instead of compromising due to my skill level. Both of the objects modelled took me less than a day to complete and they don’t actually look too bad which was surprising! Everything else I made for my truck was pretty simple so it didn’t take that long to finish and by Wednesday evening I had completed all of the modelling I needed to do! How cool is that??
Now that Wednesday must have been a particularly energetic day for me as I started texturing my model and finished off the new zombie texture for the original hillux, then on the Thursday I unwrapped and textured all of my truck without issue even the complicated deer head that I  managed to photo texture! What a relief! It doesn’t even look half bad which makes me so proud. I have worked so hard this term and although I have seen a lot of trouble with  my work and with my mental health I have finally pushed through and made something that doesn’t look like it’s been made out of clay and thrown out of a window. I am aware there are a lot more things to make progress on and improve but I have the rest of the term to work on that as we don’t have any more scheduled lessons or projects for the rest. I cannot wait to concentrate on my improvement and become better before I start next year!

My life drawing this week was bizarre but actually very interesting, again we had no life model but instead our model was fabric and pillows! We concentrated on tone, the final image was very cool and although halfway through i thought it would never look good the finished piece looked awesome and my tutor really appreciated the detail I put into it.I am glad to see I improved some more and i will continue to enjoy improving!

Level 29: Back from the dead

What’s up everybody I have returned from my lovely break in Wales and returned to Leicester. Some excellent stuff first off I completed my essay over the Easter holidays meaning I was free to work on my truck and just my truck!
It’s time for things to turn gruesome, my return begins the second half of the pick up truck project, the zombification! SO this week started out being anxiety enduing with my presentation being on the Monday in the afternoon but there was nothing to be worried about it went rather well gaining a few laughs from my fellow students and unfortunately disappointing for one of the tutors who expected me to bust in with full zombie apocalypse make-up and costuming. (sorry!!) This week meant the start of my concepting for the zombie version of the truck. Me being absolute idiot, no change there, I realise that I should have used my time off to do a little be of concepting so I could get on with the 3D asap but I didn’t so this week was a little bit of a panic to get some concepts down. So I put my head down and concentrated on getting some interesting concepts down. It does seem obvious that I need to improve my phototbashing abilities as I can often find it time consuming and boring, I think this is due to me not being experienced in it rather than me genuinely thinking of it as a boring thing to do. I was able to finish some concepts although there were not as many as I had hoped for I am still rather happy with what I have produced.

This week on in my life drawing we don’t have a life model so it was all about using each other and a cardboard tube to draw some dynamic poses, which was some good fun!

Level 25: From Mario Kart 64 to Mario Kart 8

This week has been awesome, only good news to tell this week! Although things seemed really dire this time last week it seems like all turned around this week, I spent all of last week trying to complete the model of the hillux so that It was actually complete and again I felt like all hope was lost because I was scared of the unwrapping side of finishing off the model. Turns out I was super lucky as I finished the model on the Monday, started on the unwrapping and  I finished that on the Thursday. This gave me the day to complete the texturing and let me tell you that day was so successful, I sat down and got on with that work with a little help from youtube watching markiplier, which kept me from getting distracted by other things. I completed it on the Thursday evening and let me tell you the stress was lifted off my shoulders and I felt so much better for it!

Although I found that my truck was not as good as many of the other people’s ones on the course but in the end I was super proud of myself, i finished all of the work before the hand in and that made me felt so good. It made me feel so much better about what happened with my character and I felt redeemed for all of the stress i put myself through this term!

Now it’s time for Easter, so i will be returning in a few weeks turn my normal Toyota Hillux into a hardcore zombie defence vehicle. Although everything may seem easy by having a few weeks off it won’t! I will be writing an evaluative report of my year and creating a plan to combat a zombie apocalypse and turning it into a presentation. In the meantime check out my final truck! (well as final as it can be for now!)

Level 24 – Welcome to rainbow road 150cc, loser

Okay catching up from last week I finally had the struggle of completing the chassis over and done with and thought I was going rather well after looking at some of the updates of my fellow students but in fact in the Tuesday I had my bubble unfortunately burst by again on  of my tutors asking why I was so far behind, this really put things in perspective for me. I hadn’t been slacking I juts found all of the chassis building really hard, it seemed like I was having another episode like the character project. I knew I had to get my butt in gear and started to get straight on to the exterior. This was a slow process as well, the tutorial we were given showed us the introduction to the building of the hillux exterior such as the side and creeping around the front but it then stopped. This meant I had to carry one with the topology with my own knowledge and references. I found this rather challenging as I was relying a lot on the tutorial to build my truck but this was a perfect way improve my 3D skills!
I did get half of the product done so I feel like time is slowly creeping up on me and the hand in is going to become closer and closer. I know that I can complete it but I am hoping that it is not the same as the character project. I feel like if i put my mind to it I CAN get this finished and hand it in fully modelled, unwrapped and textured!

Since I have nothing to show you so far on my truck that’s worth you seeing here’s a lovely picture of the car I have to model! Wait and see!
